Gone Daddy Gone A Black Knight Short Story eBook John G Hartness
I am a fan of Urban Fantasy, and John G. Hartness is one of the most enjoyable authors in this genre. He's not the best author, just one of the most readable. His writing is like a beer after cutting the grass on a summer afternoon, or a home-cooked meal after too much take out; refreshing and rewarding. His work is best when it is brief, or taken in small portions, though I admit to plowing through the Bubba series in one sitting (Check it out, more great work from this author). I love his concepts on what a Private Eye vampire duo would be in a more real fictional reality and really love how his writing has matured with his characters. It takes a brave author to go with a 'sometimes, no one wins' approach to the story. His characters seem as real as any of the luminaries in this genre have produced. This short story is like soft-serve ice cream from a little mom and pop stand after a big, home-style Sunday dinner. You don't need it but damn, that was enjoyable. The short stories to the Black Knight series are great little vignettes that really flesh out the series. If TV didn't do to Black Knight what it did to the Dresden Files, this would be my #1 TiVo option. Without giving too much away this story is about the people caught in the middle between a gold-digger and her mark. One of the few times I have ever felt empathy towards a Zombie and a great example of good people who sometimes do bad things for what they feel is the right reason. Highly recommend it to read.Product details

Gone Daddy Gone A Black Knight Short Story eBook John G Hartness Reviews
I read this because it was included in the Headshot eBook (a YA) to expose readers to another of Mr. Hartness' series.
A prequel to the Black Knight Chronicles, we see Jimmy Black and Gregory Knightwood III outside their home. In fact we never actually get to their home or their incredible friendship and banter, and I think that brings the story down a bit. The bro-mance between these two is what truly makes the Black Knight Chronicles so entertaining and in this story the relationship comes across as much more adversarial, with Jimmy Black scary with how easily he kills. From this short story you would think Black is just one decision away from being a Bad Fang and he has already made that decision, but hasn't acted on it because of Knightwood.
The story itself, a new widow hiring them to protect her from her newly dead and reanimated husband, follows a predictable path. Not a bad introduction to the Black Knight team, but not the best. I recommend going directly to reading the Black Knight stories. This short story adds nothing to the canon and is not as amusing as the rest of the series.
On the other hand it isn't bad and if you have 15 minutes to fill, every story from Mr. Hartness has some funny moments.
This is a fun series and a nice lite read.
If you like vampires it is a book for a relaxing read.
another good short story, just wish they were full books. looking forward to more of them. these things require me to write to much
Great Novella, I just wish it was longer. I love all the Black Knight stories.
